Quality Kitchen, Bathroom & Basement Remodeling in Columbia, Maryland
Columbia is a planned community in Howard County, made up of villages like Wilde Lake, Oakland Mills, Hickory Ridge, and River Hill. Many homes here were built from the late 1960s through the 1990s, so kitchens, bathrooms, and basements are often ready for an update. Real Time Home Improvement helps Columbia homeowners modernize their homes with clear plans, quality work, and free estimates. With 10+ years of experience, we travel from our Rockville base to serve Columbia homeowners, and owner Hugo manages every project in person.
Turn your Columbia basement into a family room, guest suite, or home office. First, we check for moisture. Then we frame, finish, and trim the space so it feels like part of the house.
We replace dated tubs, vanities, and tile in Columbia homes with bright, modern bathrooms that are easy to clean and built to last.
We update Columbia kitchens with better layouts, new cabinets and countertops, and lighting that makes the space feel open and welcoming.
Replace worn carpet or old vinyl with hardwood, luxury vinyl plank, laminate, or tile. We level the subfloor first for a smooth, lasting finish.
We install front entry, sliding, patio, and storm doors in Columbia homes, improving security, energy efficiency, and curb appeal.
Older windows let in drafts and noise. We replace them with energy-efficient windows that keep your Columbia home comfortable all year.
Basement Remodeling
Many Columbia homes built from the late 1960s through the 1990s have a basement that was finished decades ago with paneling, drop ceilings and worn carpet, or never finished at all. Some sit on sloped lots with a walk-out door, which makes them bright and easy to use. We check for moisture first, then remove old finishes, frame, insulate, update the electrical and lighting, and finish with drywall, trim and basement-rated flooring. We can add a bathroom, a wet bar or a guest suite. We handle the Howard County permits and inspections from start to finish.
Bathroom Remodeling
Bright, modern bathrooms for Columbia homes.
Bathrooms in many Columbia homes still have the tubs, vanities and tile they were built with, and some show signs of slow leaks around the tub or toilet. We remodel hall baths, primary bathrooms and powder rooms with new tile, walk-in showers or tubs, vanities, lighting and fans. While the walls are open, we fix damaged subfloor and update worn plumbing, so the new bathroom starts on a solid base. We choose finishes that are bright and easy to clean, and we waterproof every shower before the tile goes on.
Kitchen Remodeling
Many Columbia kitchens from the 1970s and 1980s have dark cabinets, small windows and a layout that separates the cook from the rest of the family. We redesign them with better flow, new cabinets and countertops, a tile backsplash, layered lighting and new flooring. In some homes we can open a wall to the family room, after checking the structure and getting the permits. Our designer helps you choose a layout and finishes that fit the house and the way you cook, so you see the plan before any work starts.
Flooring Installation
New floors that tie a Columbia home together.
Many Columbia homes have a mix of old carpet, worn vinyl and hardwood that has seen better days. We install hardwood, engineered wood, luxury vinyl plank and tile, and we refinish existing hardwood when it is in good shape. Waterproof vinyl plank works well in kitchens, bathrooms and basements, and it holds up to kids and pets. Running one floor through the main level can make the house feel bigger and more modern. We check and fix the subfloor first, so the new floor stays flat and quiet.
Door Installation
A new front door can update the look of a Columbia home quickly, and it can stop drafts around old frames. We install entry doors, sliding and French patio doors, storm doors and interior doors. Many Columbia villages have architectural guidelines for exterior changes, so we help you pick a door that fits those rules and give you the product details you need for your application. Each door is set level, sealed and adjusted so it closes tight and locks smoothly.
Window Replacement
Energy-efficient windows for Columbia's 1970s–1990s homes.
Windows installed when many Columbia homes were built are now 30 to 50 years old, and they often leak air, fog between the panes or stick when you open them. We install energy-efficient replacement windows, including ProVia, measured to fit each opening. We remove the old window, install and insulate the new one, and finish the trim inside and out. Since many villages review exterior changes, we help you choose window styles and colors that fit your village's guidelines. Every estimate is free.
Home Remodeling Process
Our process is simple. First, we start with a free consultation. Next, we handle the design and planning. We also take care of all the permits your project needs. Then our crew completes your renovation with expert craftsmanship. Finally, we do a full inspection to make sure everything meets our standards and yours.

Many Columbia bathrooms are original to homes built in the 1970s and 1980s, and it shows: fiberglass tub-and-shower units, small vanities with little storage, worn grout, and exhaust fans that don’t clear the steam. In townhouses, bathrooms are often small, so every inch counts.
A bathroom remodel in Columbia might be a tub-to-shower conversion with a low-curb walk-in shower, a new vanity with more drawer space, or large-format tile that makes the room feel bigger. For a primary bath, a double vanity and a larger shower with a glass door are popular upgrades. We replace soft or water-damaged subfloors when we find them, improve the ventilation, and handle any permits with Howard County.
Most bathroom remodels take 2 to 4 weeks of construction, and a mid-range bathroom remodel typically costs $15,000–$35,000 in our area. See our bathroom remodeling services, read how long a bathroom remodel takes, or get townhouse remodeling ideas for Columbia.

Hugo and Gaby from Real Time Home Improvement did a great job on our kitchen remodel in Bethesda, Maryland. They gave us a free estimate and a free design, and they helped us raise our cabinets all the way to the ceiling, which made more room in the kitchen. They were on site for most of the major stages and made sure everything ran smoothly. We were happy every step of the way.+0Posted on Google![]()

Hugo and his team did a great job! They were on time, professional, and got everything taken care of. They leveled the subfloor and installed the LVP after I had a huge flooring issue in my bathroom. They also reattached my vanity, toilet, and tub, and reran all the plumbing because it had been leaking and was not installed correctly previously. They did a wonderful job, and I would definitely recommend Hugo and his team for any future renovations. He’s a five-star guy!Posted on Google![]()

Hugo and his team were great to work with. I noticed my bathtub sinking and they were able to get me an estimate quickly with a more than reasonable price. Subfloor repair was thorough and they were able to identify a broken pipe causing the damage. They also repaired a significant portion of plumbing to prevent this type of damage from happening again. Would highly recommend this team, and if I have any other home projects I will certainly be giving them a call.Posted on Google![]()

Hugo and his team led a full basement renovation and concrete driveway installation at our home. They finished both jobs concurrently and were on time and on budget in both regards. It was a pleasure working with the team and I would not hesitate to use Real Time again for large or small projects.
